Whitecaps tie FC Dallas 1:1 thanks to an Arriola OG
The first-half own goal by FC Dallas' Paul Arriola, during their visit to the Whitecaps, ultimately proved to be the decisive moment of the game.
FC Dallas, who won 1 of their last 2 games this season, were leading 1:0 in the 34-minute mark when Whitecap’s Javain Brown sent a throw in from a far to Ranko Veselinovic in the 6-yard box who headed the ball and went into Ryan Gauld, who was just outside the post. In an effort to intercept, FC Dallas’ Paul Arriola stuck his leg out which sent the ball straight into the upper corner of the net of their own goal.
As it turns out, this will be the only 2 goals of the game. Both from FC Dallas.
FC Dallas first score came in the 5-minute mark courtesy of Sebastien Ibeagha’s. Nkosi Tafari sent a cross from outside of the top left into Ibeagha. Ibeagha then made a header from the center of the goal that sent it to the bottom right corner of the net, with Yohei Takaoka a good meter away from saving the ball.
Just a minute after, Arriola’s right foot shot from the side of the 6-yeard box was saved by Takaoka from point blank.
The Whitecaps, who has yet to win a game this season, tried an attempt in the 12-minute mark courtesy of Bryan White’s right footed shot from the center of the box but missed. And another attempt by White in the 15-minute mark, a right footed shot from the right side of the 6-yeard box was saved.
FC Dallas nearly scored another goal in the 28-minute mark when Edwin Cerrillo tried a through ball, but Emmanuel Twumasi was caught offside. This was followed by a tough miss in the 33- minute mark when Ibeagha hits the bar with a header from the right side of the 6-yard box.
Both teams failed to score in the second half.
A couple of attempts from the home team courtesy of Gauld’s left footed shot from the left side of the box in the 49-minute mark and Tristan Blackmon’s header from the right side of the box in the 57-miinute mark both missed.
FC Dallas had a few good looks after the intermission, Jáder Obrian’s header in the 65-minute mark from a tough angle on the left was high.
In the 70-minute mark Gauld’s attempt, probably the only good look the home team had after the break, a right footed shot from the center of the went wide.
Marco Farfan tried a left footed shot from the center in the 78-minutre mark of the box was high. A couple of attempts from Cerrillo and Alan Velasco couldn’t get FC Dallas the win.
